What is a Purple Star School?
The Purple Star School Program recognizes School Districts and Individual Schools that demonstrate a major commitment to serving students and families connected to our Nation’s Armed Forces. Davis School District is proud to be a Purple Star School District.
The Utah Purple Star School Designation shows a dedicated effort by the school to promote a military friendly campus and has specifically trained its staff to understand, help transition, and support our military connected students.
The frequent relocations required of military personnel mean that military-connected students often face unique challenges during their school career. As students transition between schools, these students must adapt to varying cultures, school populations, curricula and course standards, and graduation requirements.
Bountiful Junior High is applying to be a Purple Star School. BJH has a long history of honoring our veterans and their families. We believe there is no greater sacrifice than that made by military and their families. As a Purple Star School hopeful, we know that students from military families do not always get to have a "typical" school experience due to multiple moves and unique challenges. We recognize these challenges and are working to build programs to provide students from military families with social connection, extra academic support if needed, and an adult(s) in the building who has also lived the life in the military and understands the unique challenges that can bring. Visit the Purple Star Schools website for more information.
In addition to our personal efforts as a school, Davis School District employs a team of professionals who are specifically prepared and trained to support our military families. Please visit the district Military Support Team website for more information on resources available today.
