In compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (504) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Davis School District and [name of your school] will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities. Students, parents, or employees needing accommodation should contact their school ADA/504 Coordinator, Liz Cannon (402-6011), their principal or supervisor, or you may contact the District ADA Coordinator, Steve Baker (402-5315), for parent or employee accommodations; or Section 504 Coordinator, Midori Clough (402-5180) for student accommodations.

Assemblies are planned for your educational value and entertainment.  They are intended to supplement and enrich classroom instruction.  Courteous and cooperative behavior is expected and required.  Students should follow the directions of administrators, teachers, and/or chaperones at all times.  Students with multiple office/administrative referrals for violating classroom or school rules will be restricted from participating in assemblies, field trips, and class service projects at the discretion of the administration. 

For Assemblies:  Each student needs to be seated quickly with their assigned teacher and remain seated with their class.  No disruptive talking or noises are allowed.  Show respect to the performers or speakers.  Students removed from an assembly will be immediately sent to ISS. 

Athletic programs are open to all students and require a physical examination, insurance coverage, and a parent signature before participation is permitted.  A student agreement form, developed by the school, needs to be signed by the parent and student in order to participate in extra-curricular activities.  Eligibility for participation is covered under the “Standards and Eligibility” section in this book.   

Students wanting to try out for an athletic team must have a 2.0 GPA, no more than two N's, and no U's during the term immediately preceding tryouts.   

Changes on the class schedule will be charged $10 each time a request is submitted.  Changes without a fee can only be honored for one of the following reasons: 

1. The school/computer made an error. 

2. Classes are out of balance. 

3. Health reasons. 

A parent, teacher, student, counselor or administrator must meet before a change will be granted.  NO schedule changes will be allowed after the second week of the term. 

If a student fails a core class he/she needs to make-up that credit. BJH offers credit recovery through various options to recover lost credit. Credit make-up is through Edgenuity class during the school year or $45.00 for Summer Remediation. Please see your counselor to determine the best way to make-up any lost credit.  

Grades indicate student progress for that quarter and should be treated with great importance because they are placed on the permanent record of each student.  It is also important to note that Midterm Progress Reports are not final grades, but are only progress reports designed to alert parents and students of possible problems before the final grade is issued. 

Midterm progress reports and term report cards will be available online. Parents will be notified by email when these reports will become available. Parents can access information on grades, attendance, lunch balances, etc. by logging onto their MyDSD guardian or student account. Reports can also be obtained through the office for individuals without computer access. 

Whenever questions arise on assignments or grades, or whenever a progress report is desired, students and parents are to first contact the TEACHER by appointment before or after school or during his/her preparation period.  Office personnel do not have class/teacher information readily available to assist you.  Parents are also encouraged to make every effort to monitor their student’s education.  With hundreds of students assigned to a given teacher, it is critical that parents become the primary monitors of student progress.  Teachers are encouraged to make every effort to contact parents when concerns with students arise, but this does not relieve parents of the responsibility of checking with teachers if they have any questions on grades or behavior.  Whenever students are considering extra-curricular activities, it is especially advisable that parents become closely involved with their student’s progress and grades.   

Students have full responsibility for their behavior and academic progress. If student infractions occur near the end of the term, teachers may assign a U citizenship grade without prior notice to the parents.   

The honor roll is computed for each term and identifies those students who have met the following criteria: 

High Honor        3.75 GPA or higher 

Honor            3.45 to 3.74 GPA 

Citizenship        H in 5 classes, no N’s or U’s 

When students are ill or have excused absences, and have missed 3 or more days of school, parents may contact the Counseling Office (801) 402-6007 to have homework collected during the student’s absence. Parents can also access homework though each teachers' canvas page. 

All students wishing to participate in student government and cheerleading must be enrolled as full-time students at BJH.  

Students may participate in athletics and clubs if they are students at BJH, or if they live in Bountiful Junior High’s boundaries but attend a home, private, or charter school. 

Participation in  athletics, cheerleading, student government, student clubs, and other extra-curricular activities is not a constitutionally protected civil right. Therefore, students who are suspended, transferred to an alternative placement, or expelled, may lose the privilege of participation in all extra-curricular activities during the period of discipline and will be afforded due process procedures to challenge the denial of participation. 

All students must meet academic and citizenship requirements.   

Cheerleaders and Officers:  3.0 GPA for the year prior to try outs/elections.  No U's.  No more than 2 N's 

Athletics:  2.0 GPA for the term prior to tryouts.  No U's.  No more than 2 N's 

Any officer, cheerleader, or athlete found in possession of or using tobacco, drugs, and/or alcohol will be removed immediately from office/team, and will be subject to disciplinary action by the school.  

Standards Committee 

The Standards Review Committee will consist of an administrator, counselor, PTA representative, and faculty member involved with the point in question. Questions concerning eligibility are to be presented in written form to an administrator, stating reasons. District policy will be followed but will allow probationary students an opportunity for improvement. Changes need to be taken care of within 30 days after the grades are distributed. Committee decisions are final. 

Students who lose or damage a textbook will be assessed a fine. Misuse or abuse will result in an automatic fine, rebinding costs, or the pro-rated book replacement cost. 

The District will ensure that students have an equal opportunity to participate in, create, and maintain student groups without regard to their race, sex, disability, or other protected classification.

However, students who are suspended, transferred to an alternative placement, or expelled, may lose the privilege of participation in all extracurricular activities, such as interscholastic athletics, cheerleading, student government, student clubs, graduation ceremonies, and other extracurricular activities, during the period of discipline and will not be afforded separate due process procedures to challenge the denial of participation in an extracurricular activity.

The process of education requires continuity of instruction, class participation and study. Parents are encouraged to work with the school in promoting regular attendance of all students

Student Education Records The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law designed to protect the privacy of a student’s education records. FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their student’s education records. These rights are:

1. Inspect and review all their student’s education records maintained by the school within 45 days of a request for access.

2. Request that a school correct education records believed to be inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student’s privacy rights under FERPA. Parents who wish to ask the school to amend a record should write the principal or appropriate school official, clearly identify the part of the record they want changed and specify why it should be changed. If the school decides not to amend the record as requested by the parent, the school will notify the parent or eligible student of the decision and advise them of their right to a hearing regarding the request for amendment.

3. Provide consent before the school discloses personally identifiable information (PPI) from a student’s record, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent. Such exceptions include, but are not limited to: [a] school officials with legitimate educational interests; [b] other schools to which a student is transferring; [c] individuals who have obtained court orders or subpoenas; [d] individuals who need to know in cases of health and safety emergencies; [e] official in the juvenile justice system to improve education outcomes; [f] a State agency or organization that is legally responsible for the care and protection of the student, including the responsibility to investigate a report of educational neglect; [g] specified officials for audit or evaluation purposes; or [h] organizations conducting studies for or on behalf of the District.

A school official is a person employed by the District as an administrator, supervisor, instructor, or support staff member (including health or medical staff and law enforcement unit personnel); a person serving as a volunteer; a person serving on the District School Board; a person or company with whom the District has contracted to perform a special task (such as an attorney, auditor, medical consultant, or therapist), or to whom the District has outsourced institutional services or functions. A school official has a legitimate educational interest if the official needs to review an education record in order to fulfill his or her professional responsibility.

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag shall be recited by students at the beginning of each school day in each public school classroom in the State, led by a student in the classroom, as assigned by the classroom teacher on a rotating basis. Participation in the Pledge is voluntary and not compulsory.

Attendance is required under the state’s compulsory attendance laws (53-24-1, Utah Code Ann.).

Absence Reporting Policy 

Parents MUST report absences online through the parent MYDSD account and/or APP to clear the absence. Students whose parents do not clear the absences may be marked truant.  

• Absences must be cleared within 3 school days after they occur. 

• Five or more un-cleared absences may result in an Administrative U in citizenship. 

• The school will phone or email the home to verify absences. 

CHECKING OUT 

1. All students must check out in the attendance office before leaving the school.  

   •  Students may receive disciplinary consequences, including a truancy, if they fail to check out through the attendance office.   

2.  Students must always check in with the attendance office when returning to school.   

3. The school is required by law to have a responsible person 18 years of age or older listed on each students’ emergency contact list.  In case of emergency, and/or when a parent cannot be reached, contact will be made with the other individuals listed on the student emergency list.  An individual may NOT check a student out unless they are on this emergency contact list. 

4. Parents may not check out other students from school unless they are on the other student's emergency contact list. 

5. You MUST come into the main office and SHOW CURRENT I.D. to check a student out.  We can no longer accept phone calls or notes to check someone out. 

CHECKING IN 

Check-in at the attendance office is required for all students who enter the school after 8:10 AM. 

A parent or legal guardian having custody over a school-age minor is required under state law to enroll and send a school-age minor in a public or established private school during the school year.  The process of education requires continuity of instruction, class participation and study. Frequent absences from classes disrupt the instructional process. Parents/guardians are encouraged to work with the school in promoting regular attendance of all students.  

Parents have the legal right to take a son or daughter out of school for any reason, but they do not have the legal right to violate the state and district mandatory attendance law, which requires 90% attendance (no more than 18 absences per year, with 5 per term being considered excessive A parent may receive a notification of excessive absences if the student is in violation of the mandatory attendance law. If the attendance does not improve after the third notification, further interventions by the school, district and/or Juvenile Court system may be initiated.  

Homework: If your student is absent for 3 or more days, you may call the Counseling Department to help collect homework. We must be notified by 9:00 AM on the day it is to be collected to be ready for after school pick-up. If it is a planned absence, students are expected to work with teachers on collecting homework prior to the absence.  

Consequences for tardies will be on a term basis. 

3 tardies - The student will be called to the office.  Tardies will be dealt with as any other discipline referral.  

4 tardies – Phone call home and a U notification 

5 tardies – 1 days of lunch detention. 5 tardies in one class period in any one specific class will result in a U. 

6 tardies – 2 days of lunch detention 

7 or more will result in full day ISS or OSS 

“Truant” means a condition in which a school-age child, without a valid excuse, is absent for at least half of the school day; or if the school age child is enrolled in a learner verified program, as that term is defined by the state board, the relevant amount of time under the District’s policy regarding the District’s continuing enrollment measure as it relates to truancy. A school-age child may not be considered truant more than one time during one school day.

Accidents are to be reported immediately to the nearest adult in the building and to the administration as soon as possible so that parents can be contacted. 

CITIZENSHIP POLICY 

Graduation from high school (9-12) in the Davis School District requires earning both academic and citizenship credit for each class each term.  All students are required to earn 0.25 units of citizenship credit in each class for each term, grades 9-12.  Additionally, 0.25 units of citizenship credit is awarded by the administration for each term to cover the period of time before, during, and after school and all school-sponsored activities.  Failure to earn the required citizenship credit will result in withholding the graduation certificate until the credit has been made up.  H (Honors), G (Good), S (Satisfactory), or N (Needs Improvement) grades are used to earn citizenship credit.  U (Unsatisfactory) grades will result in loss of citizenship credit. 

An Unsatisfactory Citizenship grade (U) will result for infractions of any of the following or combination of the following: 

• Class room misbehavior – Students are expected to follow the rules and procedures outlined on all teachers’ disclosure statement and posted class rules. 

• Attendance problems - Absences should be limited to less than 5 unexcused or un-cleared per term per class.  More than 5 unexcused or un-cleared absences may result in a truancy citation.  Absences for school-sponsored activities are not counted when calculating total absences. 

• Tardiness - Students will receive a warning on the 3rd tardy.  Four or more tardies per term per class may result in an Administrative U. 

• Serious negative behavior before, during, or after school 

   

Appeals Procedure: A student who has lost citizenship credit may appeal if he/she feels there are extenuating circumstances, by: 

1. Submitting the request for a hearing in writing to the school principal. 

2. Include on the written request for a hearing for a parent advocate to be a member of the committee if student wants one present. 

3. Request the hearing be within two weeks after report cards are available. 

Administrative U 

Students earn an Administrative U through various inappropriate behaviors including but not limited to:  

• Truancies 

• Excessive tardies,  

• Safe School Policy violations  

• Continued classroom disruptions 

Students who receive an Administrative U must complete 2 hours of service before the end of the current term or 4 hours of service and a $5.00 fine after the term has ended to restore missing citizenship credit.  

Service opportunities could include but are not limited to the following: 

• Lunch Detention with homework completion 

• Attend 3 school events and write a 5 paragraph essay on good citizenship 

• Community Service approved by administration 

• Working with a teacher or custodian  

In the event a student is being disruptive to the point where the teacher cannot teach and/or students cannot learn, the following steps will be taken: 

1. The student will be asked to stop their disruptive behavior 

2. If the student continues to be disruptive they will be sent to the main office, where it will be determined if the student is to go to ISS, the counseling center, or an administrator. 

3. In ISS the student will be given a “Think Sheet” to fill out describing their inappropriate behavior and what the student will do to avoid the behavior when they return to class. 

4. As soon as the student has completed filling out their “Think Sheet” they may be allowed to return to their class. 

5. If the student is disruptive again, they will be sent to the office and will not be allowed to return to the class he/she was disrupting for the remainder of the period.  Additional consequences will be considered. 

6. If a student is referred to the office for class disruption two times within a term, he/she will receive one day of lunch detention. 

7. If a student is disruptive three times within a term, he/she will receive one week of lunch detentions.  If the disruption occurs in the same class, the student may be suspended from that class for up to 5 days, and a schedule change will be considered. 

8. If a student is disruptive four times, he/she will receive one full day of In-School Suspension.  

9. If a student is disruptive five or more times, he/she will receive one full day of Out of School Suspension and a parent/student meeting with administration will occur.  

10. Extreme discourtesy to any employee, including substitute teachers, may result in immediate out of school suspension.

Philosophy:  Junior high is a time for learning not only academic information but important social skills as well. Bountiful Junior High’s discipline policies apply to all students at BJH and are established to help all students achieve self-discipline.  It is therefore expected that rules will be clear and the consequences stated.  Similar offenses will warrant similar consequences.  Chronic offenders will be treated with more severity. 

Procedures:  In good class management, the first line of discipline is the teacher.  The teacher shall notify a parent or guardian by phone, in person, or in writing when a student is failing or receiving a U citizenship grade for poor behavior.  This systematic approach in less than crisis situations shall be documented as follows: 

Step 1:  Class and school rules are given to student. 

Step 2:  A teacher/student conference is held. 

Step 3:  Parent or guardian contact is made. 

Step 4:  School counselor is involved (optional). 

Step 5:  Student is referred to the Administration.  

Fighting is not tolerated at school and will result in parental contact and detention or suspension from school.  Fighting is a violation of the Safe-School Policy and may result in District action (Case Management). 

If a student or parent feels there has been a violation, misinterpretation or inequitable application of a policy, or any other serious concern, the below listed procedures should be followed: 

• Discuss the grievance with the teacher or person at the school with whom the disagreement has occurred. 

• Provide a written appeal to the school administration to initiate the formation of a Grievance Committee. 

• If the parties fail to reach an agreement, the student and parent or guardian may request a review by the District Superintendent. Appeals shall be in writing and addressed to the Davis School District Superintendent. 

• If agreement is not reached, the student and parent or guardian may submit in writing a request for a hearing before the District Board of Education. 

Nothing herein shall be construed to limit the rights of a student/parent/guardian to appeal to a court of law. 

HALL CONDUCT 

Halls are an extension of the classroom. Behavior in the halls should reflect standards of safety and appropriate manners.  Running, shoving, etc. violates the rights of others. Students in the halls during class periods are REQUIRED to have a hall pass or be under the direct supervision of a teacher. No inappropriate language will be tolerated in the halls and in the classrooms.   

 HALL PASSES 

Hall passes are only to be used for emergencies, and only one student is allowed on a hall pass at a time. 

Lunch Detention 

Students may be assigned to lunch detention by an administrator for unacceptable behavior. The detention must be completed within a specified time determined by the administration. Failure to complete the detention within the specified time period, or on the assigned date, will result in additional disciplinary measures which may include additional days of detention, an administrative “U” citizenship grade and/or out-of-school suspension.   

Class Period In-School Suspension 

On a day that ISS is assigned, the student will not attend his/her regular classes but will be assigned to a supervised room. Classroom assignments and homework may be arranged for by the ISS supervisor. 

It is unlawful to use language which is foul, profane, vulgar or abusive in public places.  Violations will result in disciplinary action.

Davis School District Policy Manual: Student Conduct and Discipline

Anyone, other than registered students, wanting to enter the building during school hours for any reason must present a valid identification card as directed at the West entry locked vestibule.  

Breakfast and lunch programs, including prices, are run as outlined by district, state, and federal guidelines.   

Parents/Students may pay for lunch with check or cash in the cafeteria (Change will not be given.  Any extra amount will be deposited into the student's lunch account), or prepay at any time through MyDSD.

Free or reduced-price lunches are available by application.  Forms may be picked up in the main office, on our school website, or by contacting the  Nutrition Services department.   

Students eating food brought from home can buy milk and eat in the lunchroom.   

Use of the cafeteria is a privilege; unacceptable behavior could result in the loss of cafeteria use.

Bountiful Junior High is a closed campus.  No student will be allowed off campus for any reason without parent approval.  Students who choose to leave campus will be marked truant.   Students entering or leaving the school during the school day are to check in/out at the office or will be marked truant. 

CAMPUS BOUNDARIES 

Bountiful Junior High boundaries are as follows: 

1. On the west—Parking lot and Bountiful Junior High Gymnasium in the SDRC.

2. On the north—approx. 50 yards north of the building.

3. On the east—the lawn boundaries and not east of the L.D.S. Seminary Building.

4. On the south—the sidewalk along 400 North. 

Note:  The VHS softball diamond on the northeast side of the building is off limits to students at all times.  The park and pavilion west of the school is off limits. 

Elevator keys will be available to students with a disability or injury.  Only those students who are in need of using the elevator may ride the elevator. Those who have elevator keys who allow students who should not be on the elevator to use the elevator may lose their elevator privileges. Please contact the office to check out a key as needed.  A lost key will result in a $10.00 fine.  

Meal Charges in Schools 

The purpose of these procedures is to establish consistent meal charging and collection procedures district-wide. The District’s goals are: 

• To maintain a positive experience for students during meal service. 

• To treat all students with dignity and respect. 

• To establish practices which are age-appropriate. 

• To minimize meal charges and encourage parents to pre-pay for all meals. 

• To promote parents’ responsibility for meal payment and self-responsibility of the student. 

Meal Accounts: Payment in advance for meals enables the District to achieve these goals. Personal checks and cash deposits are accepted daily at the schools. For convenience, deposits may also be made by credit/debit card through a parent’s my.DSD account. 

Emergency Meal Service: The Board of Education acknowledges that on occasion, students may forget or lose meal money. In such cases, the student’s statement of need shall be accepted and a meal will be made available. School lunch employees shall not, withhold a meal, provide an alternate meal, pull a student from the line, ask the student to call his parent or friend, stamp the student’s hand, or otherwise call attention to the student who has forgotten or lost meal money. A school lunch employee may remind a student attending a secondary school that his account is in the negative. The cost of the unpaid meal will be charged to the student’s account. 

Evaluate Individual Circumstances: When a student repeatedly comes to school without a meal from home or money to participate in the school meal program, school administrators should consider if circumstances in the home warrant contacting social workers or Child Protective Services. Frequent requests may indicate the family’s need for free- or reduced-price meals. School administrators may work with the family to apply for school meal benefits. All meals eaten before a free- or reduced-price meal application is processed and approved are the responsibility of the parent and must be paid for. 

Repayment for Meal Charges and Bad Checks: Federal guidelines prohibit the Food and Nutrition operation from writing off bad debts as a result of charged meals. Every effort will be made to collect for unpaid meals. Unpaid meal charges may result in the following: 

• An automated telephone call to the parent. 

• An email sent to the parent. 

• A verbal reminder to student attending a secondary school. 

• School lunch manager contact parents by phone or notes in teacher mail boxes. 

• In case of significant delinquent payments, a letter will be sent home from the Food and Nutrition Department. 

Parents are responsible to pay all of their student’s meal charges. All unpaid charges will be added to the list of any outstanding fees or unpaid fines at the end of the school year. Uncollected meal charges shall be handled the same as other school debt. 

 Lockers will be assigned by request and under special circumstances only.  A $5 locker rental fee will be assessed.

Jammed lockers- must be secondary to class attendance.  If a locker is jammed, first go to class to receive permission from your teacher to leave class prior to seeking help in unjamming your locker. The office will NOT issue a Do Not Mark Tardy slip but will contact someone to assist with problem. 

Security– We advise each student to keep his/her locker combination confidential at all times! Combinations will only be changed once during the school year for a fee of $5.00.  Lockers should be kept locked at all times and valuables should be kept on your person or left at home.  The school is not responsible for any loss and strongly encourages each student to protect his/her valuables. 

Property rights– The U.S. Supreme Court has determined that lockers are the property of the school. Authorized school personnel may make locker checks, announced or unannounced. 

Prohibited Items– Opened cans/boxes of food, dairy products, aerosol spray items, including deodorants, colognes, perfumes, etc. are not allowed to be stored in lockers due to health concerns.   

Items lost can be checked for in the office.  At the end of each term all items will be displayed for a day. All items not recovered at that time will be donated to charity.   

The Media Center will be open before and after school and during lunch according to the schedule. Books checked out will become the responsibility of the student for all damages and loss. Fines will be assessed for late books.

Office phones are available for student use.  Due to the number of students enrolled, it is very difficult to get messages to students.  Please call only in an emergency and office staff will notify your student. Please do NOT call or text your student on his/her cell phone during class time. Students are allowed to access their cell phones before and after school, and at lunch.  No phone is available in the building after 3:15 PM.  

VISITORS 

ALL visitors MUST check in at the office before proceeding further into the building. 

Bountiful Junior High has adopted and enforces a policy of NO STUDENT VISITORS.  The school does NOT issue Visitor Passes for friends or relatives to attend classes with students.  Students from other schools, including high schools are NOT allowed on campus unless they are here on official business and have been cleared through the office.  Students who fail to follow this policy may receive a trespassing citation, and may lose the right to be on BJH property.   

Students are encouraged to use their backpacks to take all books and supplies to each class. Lockers are available for student use upon request. Backpacks are a great tool for carrying class supplies. 

Bountiful Junior High has zero tolerance for bullying, harassment, or hazing.

1. “Bullying” means intentionally or knowingly committing an act that:  

   • Endangers the physical health or safety of a school employee or student and: 

     • involves any brutality of physical nature such as whipping, beating, branding, calisthenics, bruising, electric shocking, place of a harmful substance in the body, or exposure to the elements;

     • involves physically obstructing a school employee’s or student’s freedom to move; and  

   • is done for the purpose of placing a school employee or student in fear of: 

     • physical harm to the school employee or student; or 

     • harm to property of the school employee or student. 

     • Bullying is commonly understood as aggressive behavior that: 

     • is intended to cause distress and harm; 

     • exists in a relationship in which there is an imbalance of power and strength; and 

     • is repeated over time.    

2. “Cyber-bullying” means using the Internet, a cell phone, or another device to send or post text, video, or an image with the intent or knowledge, or with reckless disregard, that the text, video, or image will hurt, embarrass, or threaten an individual. 

3. “Harassment” means repeatedly communicating to an individual, in an objectively demeaning or disparaging manner, statements that contribute to a hostile learning or work environment for the individual.  

4. “Hazing” means intentionally or knowingly committing an act that endangers the physical health or safety of a school employee or student and:  

   • involves any brutality of a physical nature such as whipping, beating, branding, calisthenics, bruising, electric shocking, placing of a harmful substance on the body, or exposure to the elements: 

   • involves consumption of any food, liquor, drug, or other substance; 

   • involves other physical activity that endangers the physical health and safety of a school employee or student; or 

   • involves physically obstructing a school employee’s or student’s freedom to move; and 

   • is done for the purpose of initiation or admission into, affiliation with, holding office in, or as a condition for membership or acceptance, or continued membership or acceptance, in any school or school sponsored team, organization, program, or event; or  

   • if the person committing the act against a school employee or student knows the school employee or student is a member of, or candidate for, membership with a school, or school sponsored team, organization, program, or event to which the person committing the act belongs to or participates in.  

5. “Retaliation” means an act or communication intended: 

   • as retribution against a person for reporting bullying, cyber-bullying, or hazing and harassment; or 

   • to improperly influence the investigation of, or the response to a report of bullying, cyber-bullying, hazing and harassment.  

   • The conduct defined herein constitutes bullying, cyber-bullying, hazing or harassment, regardless of whether the person against whom the conduct is committed, directed, consented to, or acquiesced in, the conduct.  

Response to Bullying/Harassment 

  Do not ignore harassment to you or others! If you feel you or someone else is being harassed or bullied:  

• Take charge by saying “I do not like it when you are harassing me, and I want you to stop.” 

• If they harass/bully you again, explain that you will report it to a teacher or an administrator. 

• Tell a teacher or administrator. 

 Bullying, cyber-bullying, harassment, and hazing are behaviors that will not be tolerated at Bountiful Junior High. Students who engage in any of these behaviors will be subject to In-School Suspension or Out-of-School Suspension. Students may be referred to Davis School District Case Management and/or the police based upon the severity of the infraction as determined by school administration.  

Riding a school bus is a privilege extended to students who qualify to ride the bus based on district guidelines.  To determine eligibility, check:  www.davis.k12.ut.us, departments, then transportation for eligibility.   Periodic checks will be made to help maintain the correct number of student riders.  

This privilege can be revoked at any time for unsatisfactory conduct.  Students being transported are under the authority of the bus driver and must obey his/her requests.  Failure to observe the rules will result in an administrative referral with possible loss of bus privileges.  Specific rules are stated in the Transportation Safety Pamphlet given to all bus riders.   

COMPUTER USE POLICY 

Bountiful Junior is pleased to have many computers for student use in both classrooms and labs throughout the building.  In order to use the computers or other equipment, students must sign an Acceptable Use Agreement on myDSD.  Students may use school computers for educational purposes only!  If violated, computer privileges will be revoked. 

Misuse of the computers may result in the loss of the student’s computer user account for the rest of the year and may result in further disciplinary and/or legal action.  Examples of inappropriate use of the school computers, network, and the Internet include, but are not limited to the following: 

1. Downloading ANYTHING that is not correlated with a school assignment and/or has no educational purpose. 

2. Unplugging the network data line from the computer. 

3. Telling others your password or pressuring another student to tell you his/her password. 

4. Logging in as someone other than yourself. 

5. Instructing others how to do illegal or unacceptable things on the computer. 

6. Altering any of the setups on the computer. 

7. Using inappropriate or threatening language. 

8. Sending anonymous emails or not representing yourself as who you are. 

“Electronic device” means a device that is used for audio, video, or text communication or any other type of computer or computer like instrument including: (1) a smart phone; (2) a smart or electronic watch; (3) a tablet; or (4) a virtual reality device. 

“District owned electronic device” means a device that is used for audio, video, text communication, or other type of computer or computer‐like instrument that is identified as being owned, provided, issued or lent by the District to a student or employee. 

“Privately‐owned electronic device” means a device that is used for audio, video, text communication, or other type of computer or computer‐like instrument that is not owned or issued by the District to a student or employee. 

Prohibitions   

Electronic devices shall not be used in ways that bully, humiliate, harass, or intimidate school related individuals, including students, employees, and guests, or violates local, state, or federal law.    

Electronic devices shall not be used in a way that would cause invasions of reasonable expectations of student and employee privacy. 

Electronic devices may not be used during Utah Performance Assessment System for students assessments unless specifically allowed by law, student IEP, or assessment directions.  

Electronic devices shall not be used during any class without the permission of a supervising adult as part of a legitimate academic pursuit.  

All Electronic device use must comply with the applicable District Acceptable Use policy agreement. 

Exceptions to this policy will be made for special circumstances, such as health-related reasons, IEP accommodations, and/or emergencies.  Arrangements for exceptions must be made with an administrator, who will then communicate with teachers as appropriate. 

Confiscation 

Violations of this policy may result in the electronic device being confiscated.  When an employee confiscates an electronic device under this policy, he/she shall take reasonable measures to label and secure the device and turn the device over to a school administrator as soon as the employee’s duties permit.  Electronic devices will then be secured in the office for a student or parent to pick up at the end of the school day. A student who refuses to give a phone or electronic device to an adult when asked will be referred directly to the administration, and additional consequences will be considered.  

Disciplinary Action 

1st Violation:  Phone/electronic device is confiscated, and the student will be able to pick up the device from the office after school.  

2nd Violation:  Phone/electronic device is confiscated. Parent/guardian are notified, and the student will be able to pick up the device from the office after school.  

3rd Violation:  Phone or electronic device will be confiscated, and a parent/guardian must pick up the phone. 

+4th Violation:  Phone/electronic device will be confiscated, and a parent/guardian must pick the phone up from an administrator.  Student may be assigned one full day of in-school suspension and may be charged with school disruption.  

Cell phone, text messaging, or any Internet site (i.e., Twitter, Facebook, etc.) communication which threatens harm or causes harm by impacting a student from BJH is considered a criminal activity and WILL NOT be tolerated.  Parent/guardian will be notified, and the student suspended with referral to the police and District Case Management for possible alternative placement and/or expulsion.  Ref. 4.1.8-District Safe and Orderly School Policy.  “The use of force which threatens harm or causes harm to the school or school property, to a person associated with the school or property associated with any such person, regardless of where it occurs.” 

Security of Devices 

Students shall be personally and solely responsible for the security of electronic devices brought to school.  The school shall not assume responsibility for theft, damage, misuse or unauthorized calls made with an electronic device, including iPads, Kindles, iPods, or other electronic readers or devices.  If devices are loaned to or borrowed and misused by non-owners, device owners are jointly responsible for the misuse or policy violation(s). 

DRESS STANDARDS

We understand that the concept of the person, the sense of the self, the experience of being an individual, are different at different times and in different places, partly in relation to differences in clothing. We understand that how one dresses is sometimes a sensitive topic; and it is never our intention to label or judge a person based on how they dress. Unfortunately, it is human nature to notice, and sometimes be distracted by, another person’s dress and hygiene. Because of this, there are certain things that are simply not appropriate in a junior high school setting. A person’s clothing and/or hygiene has proven at times to make it difficult for students and teachers to concentrate on learning. Because learning is our priority, Bountiful Junior High School has adopted the following dress code policy to avoid distractions in the halls and classrooms.

The following will be prohibited: 

•Extreme or slovenly clothing, including but not limited to, baggy or “sagging” pants or shorts, excessively oversized jackets or coats, inappropriately short, tight, or revealing shorts, skirts, dresses, shirts, etc.,

•Clothing that is torn, ripped or frayed in areas that cover undergarments;

• Bare or stocking feet;

•Clothing which displays obscene, vulgar, lewd, or sexually explicit words, messages, or pictures;

•Clothing attachments or accessories which could be considered weapons, including but not limited to spikes on boots, bracelets or chokers, chains on wallets or belts, etc.;

•Exaggerated cosmetics and body paint;

•Exaggerated body piercing;

•Tank tops are not allowed. Shirts MUST have sleeves.

•Clothing that exposes bare midriffs, buttocks, or undergarments;

•Clothing that advertises a substance a student cannot legally possess or use (i.e., tobacco, alcohol, illegal drugs);

•Any clothing, apparel, accessory, or item that conveys a specific, particularized message that school officials can prove has caused or imminently will cause material disruption of classwork, substantial interference with the work of the school, or invasion of the rights of others.

•Pants/shorts must have no less than a 5-inch inseam, nor can they have rips/tears that show skin above what would be a 5-inch inseam level on the leg.

•Students not complying with the dress code will be asked to have appropriate clothing brought to the school by a guardian or will be provided a school t-shirt with an accompanying $5 purchase price if the shirt is not returned in good condition.

DAVIS SCHOOL DISTRICT DRESS CODE POLICY

In 1986, the Utah State Legislature enacted legislation requiring local boards of education to designate and approve standardized district fee schedules. The Davis District School Board has approved the fee schedule for junior high students.  The current fee schedule may be accessed on the Davis District web page or on Bountiful Junior High’s web page. 

According to State Board Policy C5(d), “Fee waivers or other provisions (installment payments, etc.) are available to all students who are in state custody or receiving public assistance in the form of aid to dependent children, general relief, supplemental security income, or foster care, and others whose parents or guardians are financially unable to pay.”  7For classes requiring fees, additional fee information is available at the school office. 

Your child’s care is of vital importance to us. Please keep your child’s emergency card current with telephone number and address to reach a parent or responsible adult. If a student feels sick at any time during school hours he/she needs to report to the attendance office for assistance. Any student who needs to be excused from Physical Education MUST HAVE A NOTE FROM HIS/HER DOCTOR given to the P.E. teacher. Students who do not notify a teacher or report into the office when ill, and instead, remain in a restroom or leave the building without checking out, will be marked truant.   

Insurance is an individual concern and is not carried or sponsored by the District. Students are encouraged to enroll in an insurance program if they do not already have one. An insurance company’s information is available at the school and in the registration packet. Students involved in athletics must have some form of insurance coverage.  

Students requiring prescription or nonprescription medication to be administered by school personnel must meet the following guidelines. 

The parent or legal guardian has provided a completed, current, signed, and dated, “Authorization of School Personnel to Administer Medication” form providing for the administration of medication to the student during regular school hours.  A current photograph will also be provided and attached to the request. The request must be updated, at least, on a yearly basis, or whenever a change is made to the administration of medication. 

The student’s licensed medical provider has also provided a signed and dated “Authorization of School Personnel to Administer Medication” form describing the method, amount, and time schedule for medication administration and the side effects that may be seen in the school setting from the medication. 

The medication is delivered to the school by the student’s parent/guardian or other responsible adult. A one week supply or more is recommended. 

The prescription medication is in a container that has been properly labeled by a pharmacy. The nonprescription, over the counter, medication is in the original container and clearly labeled with the child’s name and dose, per doctor’s order, on the container. A one week supply or more is recommended. 

The medication is an oral medication, inhalant medication, eye or ear drop medication, gastronomy, rectal, or topical medication, Epi-pen, or glucagon and Insulin. Medications requiring other routes (IV and/or other injectable medications) cannot be administered by school personnel. 

Prescription and/or nonprescription medication specified in a student’s IEP or 504-accomodation plan will be administered as outlined in the plan. 

Note:  Student Self-Administration of Medication: This policy does not prohibit a student from carrying his/her own medication to school in instances where the student’s maturity level is such that he/she could reasonably be expected to appropriately administer the medication on his/her own.  In such instances, the student may carry one day’s dosage of medication on his/her person.  Any misuse of such medication by the student may be subject to disciplinary action under the District’s Safe and Orderly Schools Policy. 

DAVIS DISTRICT SAFE SCHOOLS NOTICE 

AUTHORITY TO SUSPEND OR EXPEL 

The school administrator has the authority to suspend a student for up to ten school days per incident. If the school administrator desires or contemplates suspending for longer than ten school days or expelling a student, the school administrator shall make a referral to the District’s Case Management Team. 

NONDISCRIMINATION IN DISCIPLINE

The District will ensure that students are not discriminated against in the administration of discipline, including the duration and type of consequence, and in referrals to law enforcement. 

DISRUPTION OF SCHOOL OPERATIONS 

Any student may be suspended, transferred to an alternative placement, or expelled for any conduct that creates an unreasonable and substantial disruption or risk of disruption of a class, activity, program, or other function of the school, including but not limited to frequent, flagrant, or willful disobedience; defiance of school authority; criminal activity; fighting; noncompliance with school dress code; possession of contraband (i.e., drug paraphernalia, pornography, mace, pepper spray, laser pen, chains, needles, razor blades, bats and clubs); or the use of foul, profane, vulgar, harassing or abusive language. Conduct that is a class B misdemeanor may also be referred to law enforcement. Conduct which is a class C misdemeanor, an infraction, a status offense on school property, or an offense that is truancy may not be referred to law enforcement or a prosecuting attorney.

DRUGS/CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES 

Any student, who possesses, controls, uses, distributes, sells, or arranges the sale of an illegal drug or controlled substance (which includes alcohol, tobacco in any form, and electronic cigarettes, or electronic cigarette substance or product), an imitation controlled substance, or drug paraphernalia in a school building, in a school vehicle, on District property, or in conjunction with any school activity, may be suspended, transferred to an alternative placement, tested for drugs, expelled, referred for police investigation, and/or prosecuted.

DUE PROCESS 

When a student is suspected of violating Bountiful Junior High School or District policy, the school administrator must meet with and inform him/her of the allegations and provide the student the opportunity to give his/her version of the incident. If the school administrator determines sufficient evidence exists to impose discipline, the school administrator shall notify the parent or guardian that 1) the student has been suspended; 2) the grounds for the suspension; 3) the period of time for which the student is suspended; and 4) the time and place for the parent or guardian to meet with a designated school official to review the suspension. 

BULLYING/CYBER-BULLYING/HARASSMENT/HAZING 

A student may be suspended, transferred to an alternative placement, expelled, referred for police investigation, and/or prosecuted for engaging in any written, physical, or verbal aggression, intimidation, discrimination, or abusive conduct of any school employee or student at school or a school-related activities regardless of location or circumstance, including but not limited to bullying, cyber-bullying, hazing, or retaliation. District policy may be found at 5S-100 Conduct and Discipline. Bountiful Junior High follows district policy on Bullying and Harassment. Further information on the school policy may be found under Bullying/Harassment or a copy may be obtained in the school office. For incidents of harassment (unwelcome conduct based on a protected class) and discrimination, please refer to 11IR-100.

SAFE & ORDERLY SCHOOLS 

It is the policy of the Davis School District and Bountiful Junior High to promote a safe and orderly school environment for all students and employees. Criminal acts or disruptive behavior of any kind will not be tolerated and any individual who engages in such activity will be subject to school disciplinary action as determined by school administrators, or District disciplinary action as determined by the District Case Management Team. Criminal acts that are a class B misdemeanor or above (including but not limited to drug possession or physical assault) may also be referred to law enforcement. In determining appropriate discipline, school officials will consider the totality of the circumstances, including the severity of the offense, as well as the individual’s age, disability status, intent, academic status, and prior disciplinary records.

SAFE SCHOOL VIOLATIONS

Any student may be suspended, transferred to an alternative placement, expelled, referred for police investigation, and/or prosecuted for committing any of the following school-related serious violations: 1) threatening or causing harm to the school, school property, or person associated with the school, or property associated with that person, regardless of where the conduct occurs; 2) committing any criminal act, including but not limited to: assault, hazing, rape, trespass, arson, theft, vandalism, possession or use of pornographic materials on school property; 3) engaging in any gang activity, including but not limited to flashing gang signs, displaying or spraying gang graffiti, wearing or displaying gang related clothing or apparel, or soliciting others for membership in a gang.

SEARCH AND SEIZURE 

School officials have the authority to search a student’s person, personal property, or vehicle while located on school property or at a school sponsored activity, when they have reasonable grounds to believe that the search will turn up evidence that the student has violated or is violating a particular law or school rule.

School Lockers, desks, or other storage areas are the sole property of the Davis School District and Bountiful Junior High. Periodic general inspections of school lockers may be conducted by school authorities randomly without notice, without student consent, and without a search warrant. Searches will be conducted in such a way as to be short in duration and not disrupt educational activities.

SERIOUS VIOLATIONS 

Students may be suspended, transferred to an alternative placement, expelled, referred for police investigation, and/or prosecuted for committing any of the following school-related serious violations: 1) threatening or causing harm to the school, school property, or persons associated with the school, or property associated with that person, regardless of where the conduct occurs; 2) committing any criminal act, including but not limited to: assault, harassment, hazing, rape, trespass, arson, theft, and vandalism, possession or use of pornographic material on school property; 3) engaging in any gang activity, including but not limited to: flashing gang signs, displaying or spraying gang graffiti, wearing or displaying gang-related clothing or apparel, or soliciting others for membership in a gang. 

 WEAPONS AND EXPLOSIVES–UP TO ONE YER EXPULSION (Utah Code 53G-8-205)

Any student who in a school building, in a school vehicle, on District property, or in conjunction with any school activity, possesses, controls, sales, arranges for the sale of, uses or threatens use of a real weapon, explosive, noxious or flammable material, or actually uses or threatens to use a look-alike or pretend weapon with the intent to intimidate another person or to disrupt normal school activities, shall be expelled from all District schools, programs, and activities for a period of not less than one calendar year; unless the District Case Management Team determines, on a case-by-case basis, that a lesser consequence would be more appropriate. The terms “weapon,” “explosive,” and “noxious or flammable material” includes but are not limited to: guns, starter pistols, cap guns, knives, martial arts accessories, bombs, bullets and ammunition, fireworks, gasoline, or other flammable liquids, matches, and lighters.

The Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) affords parents certain rights regarding the use of surveys or other school activities which may involve the collection or use of protected information. These include the right to:

Consent before students are required to participate in any survey, analysis, or evaluation that reveals information, whether personally identifiable or not, concerning the student’s or any family member’s: [a] political affiliations or beliefs; [b] mental or psychological problems; [c] sexual behavior, orientation, or attitudes [d] illegal, anti-social, self-incriminating, or demeaning behavior; [e] critical appraisals of others with whom the student or family have close family relationships; [f] legally recognized privileged relationships, such as with lawyers, doctors, or ministers; [g] religious practices, affiliations, or beliefs; or [h] income, other than as required by law to determine program eligibility. Receive notice and an opportunity to opt a student out of activities involving collection, disclosure, or use of personal information obtained from students regarding any of the protected information areas. Inspect, upon request and before administration or use of: [a] protected information surveys designed to be administered to students; and [b] instructional material used as part of the educational curriculum.

Davis School District has policies in place to protect student privacy as required by both State and Federal law. [name of your school] will directly notify you of the specific or approximate dates of activities which involve the collection or use of protected information and provide an opportunity to opt your student out of participating in such activities.

Directory Information, which is information that is generally not considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if released, may be released at the discretion of school officials, without consent, for appropriate reasons such as, school publications, newspaper articles, and to outside education related organizations. In addition, two federal laws require secondary schools to provide military recruiters, upon request, the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of their students. The Davis School District has designated the following information as directory information: 1) student’s name, address, and telephone number; 2) student’s date and place of birth; 3) grade level and enrollment status; 4) student’s District email address; 5) student’s ID number that is displayed on a student ID badge; 6) parent email address; 7) participation in officially recognized activities and sports; 8) weight and height of members of athletic teams; 9) dates of attendance; 10) degrees, honors, and awards received; 11) most recent educational institution attended by the student; 12) student’s digital image.

The following shall be considered limited use directory information that may be disclosed only to other students enrolled in the same course (regardless of whether such students are enrolled in the same class section) that has been audio or video recorded by the District, for instructional and educational purposes only: 1) name to the extent it is referenced or captured during the audio or video recordings; 2) any photograph or image of the student captured during the audio or video recording; 3) any audio or video recording of the student participating in the course; and 4) any online chats or other recorded communications among participants in the course captured during the audio or video recording.

To protect the privacy of other students, parents/students are not permitted to make their own recordings of class sessions or to share or distribute District recordings of class sessions.

If you, as a parent do not want Bountiful Junior High to disclose limited directory information of your child without your prior written consent, you must notify the school in writing annually.

Complaints should be reported as soon as possible, but not later than 180 days from the date you learned of the circumstances of the alleged violation.

In compliance with existing federal and State law regarding religion and religious expression in public schools, the District or school may neither advance nor inhibit religion. It is the District’s policy to: 1) allow students and employees to engage in expression of personal religious views or beliefs within the parameters of current law; and 2) maintain the schools’ official neutrality regarding sectarian religious issues according to the constitutional principle of separation between church and state.

The Davis School District and Bountiful Junior High shall reasonably accommodate ** a parent’s:

· Written request to retain a student in kindergarten through grade 8 on grade level based on the student’s academic ability or the student’s social, emotional, or physical maturity.

· Written request, prior to scheduled event, to excuse the student from attendance for a family event or a scheduled proactive visit to a health care provider. (Student agrees to make up course work for school days missed for the scheduled absence).

· Written request to place a student in a specialized class, a specialized program, or an advance course. (In determining whether placement is reasonable, the District shall consider multiple academic data points).

· Request to excuse the student from taking an assessment that is federally mandated, is mandated by the state, or requires the use of a state assessment system or software that is provided or paid for by the state.

· Initial selection of a teacher or request for a change of teacher.

· Request to visit and observe any class the student attends.

· Request to meet with a teacher at a mutually agreeable time if unable to attend a regularly scheduled parent teacher conference.

Each accommodation shall be considered on an individual basis and no student shall be considered to a greater or a greater or lesser degree than any other student.

**Reasonably accommodate for purposes of this section means the District or school shall make its best effort to enable a parent to exercise a parental right specified here without substantial impact to staff and resources, including employee working conditions, safety and supervision on school premises and for school activities, and the efficient allocation of expenditures; while balancing: the parental rights of parents; the educational needs of other students; the academic and behaviorally impact to a classroom; a teacher’s workload; and the assurance of the safe and efficient operation of a school.

The parental rights specified here do not include all the rights or accommodations available to parents from the public education system.

The purpose of these procedures is to establish consistent meal charging and collection procedures districtwide. The District’s goals are:

· To maintain a positive experience for students during meal service.

· To treat all students with dignity and respect.

· To establish practices which are age appropriate.

· To minimize meal charges and encourage parents to pre-pay for all meals.

· To promote parents’ responsibility for meal payment and self-responsibility of the student.

Meal Accounts: Payment in advance for meals enables the District to achieve these goals. Personal checks and cash deposits are accepted daily at the schools. For convenience, deposits may also be made by credit/debit card through a parent’s myDSD account.

Emergency Meal Service: The Board of Education acknowledges that on occasion, students may forget or lose meal money. In such cases, the student’s statement of need shall be accepted, and a meal will be made available. School lunch employees shall not, withhold a meal, provide an alternate meal, pull a student from the line, ask the student to call his parent or friend, stamp the student’s hand, or otherwise call attention to the student who has forgotten or lost meal money. A school lunch employee may remind a student attending a secondary school that his account is in the negative. The cost of the unpaid meal will be charged to the student’s account.

Evaluate Individual Circumstances: When a student repeatedly comes to school without a meal from home or money to participate in the school meal program, school administrators should consider if circumstances in the home warrant contacting social workers or Child Protective Services. Frequent requests may indicate the family’s need for free- or reduced-price meals. School administrators may work with the family to apply for school meal benefits. All meals eaten before a free- or reduced-price meal application is processed and approved are the responsibility of the parent and must be paid for.

Repayment for Meal Charges and Bad Checks: Federal guidelines prohibit the Food and Nutrition operation from writing off bad debts as a result of charged meals. Every effort will be made to collect for unpaid meals. Unpaid meal charges may result in the following:

· An automated telephone call to the parent.

· An email sent to the parent.

· A verbal reminder to student attending a secondary school.

· School lunch manager contact parents by phone or notes in teacher mailboxes.

· In case of significant delinquent payments, a letter will be sent home from the Food and Nutrition Department.

Parents are responsible to pay all their student’s meal charges. All unpaid charges will be added to the list of any outstanding fees or unpaid fines at the end of the school year. Uncollected meal charges shall be handled the same as other school debt.

Objective: The purpose of this cell phone policy is to create a focused, engaged, and productive learning environment within the school classrooms. By implementing this policy, we aim to minimize distractions caused by cell phones and ensure that students can engage fully in their educational activities.

Guidelines:

• Cell Phone Deposit:
  • At the beginning of each class, students are required to deposit their cell phones into designated cell phone pocket holders provided by the school.
  • Cell phones must be turned off or set to silent mode before being placed in the pocket holders.
• Limited Use During Class:
  • Students are not permitted to use their cell phones during class, unless explicitly instructed by the teacher for educational purposes.
• Consequences for Unauthorized Use:
  • First Offense: If a student is caught using their cell phone without permission:
    • The cell phone will be confiscated and taken to the school office.
    • The student can retrieve their cell phone at the end of the school day.
  • Second Offense:
    • The cell phone will be confiscated and sent to the school office.
    • A parent or guardian will be notified to pick up the cell phone after school.
  • Third Offense:
    • The cell phone will be confiscated and sent to the school office.
    • A parent or guardian will be contacted and notified to pick up the cell phone at the end of the school day and the students next offense will result in an administrative U.
  • Subsequent Offenses:
    • An administrative U (disciplinary measure) will be issued.
    • The cell phone will be sent to the school office.
    • A parent or guardian will be required to pick up the cell phone at the end of the school day.
• Unauthorized handling or taking of another student's cell phone is strictly prohibited and constitutes theft under both school policy and the law. Any student found engaging in such actions will face disciplinary measures in accordance with school guidelines, which may include but are not limited to suspension or expulsion. Additionally, the school reserves the right to involve law enforcement in cases of theft or unauthorized possession of personal property.

It is essential that all students respect the personal property and privacy of their peers. Any concerns or disputes related to cell phone ownership or usage should be reported to school authorities for appropriate resolution. We encourage a safe and respectful environment where students can focus on their education without the fear of theft or infringement on their personal belongings.

Note:

• Students are responsible for the security of their cell phones during the deposit and collection process.
• In the case of emergency situations, students can request permission from a teacher or school staff member to access their cell phones. If you as a parent and or guardian need to contact your students for any emergency, please contact our front office at 801-402-6000.
• Students will have access to their cell phones before school, in-between classes, lunch, and after school and are permitted to use them during these times.
• This policy applies to all classes conducted within the school premises.

Rationale: This policy is designed to create a focused learning environment, enhance student engagement, and promote responsible cell phone usage. By addressing unauthorized cell phone use with graduated consequences, we aim to foster a respectful educational atmosphere that maximizes students' academic achievements and overall growth.
